The first family they showed was a family from Georgia. Jermaine Sullivan. Young black family with 3 adorable little boys, he was a convert and a young bishop and his sister lived in a neighboring town and wasn't Mormon and he was reinforcing the fact that families develop on mutual trust and love not religion. When the wife was asked about caring and being a mom for the three young boys she said "if we are following the teachings of Christ it should make us better mothers." The other thing her husband said is "If we focus on the things that makes us one it creates a confound sense of harmony and unity"
Another family was Hawaiian and he was the head coach of the U.S Naval Academy in Maryland (inducted into the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame 2014)- Ken Niumatalolo. He was talking about when he was put in as head coach he made changes that included no organized meetings on Sundays. They looked at him in disbelief and he told them he wouldn't stop them from doing what they wanted but he would not be there to these meetings which were traditionally seen as critical to the team's success. He choose to instead honor the Sabbath day (he was a primary teacher) The part that struck me was he said " that meant that I went into work at 4 the next morning to do my planning and my work for the team, God expects us to do the work" Also compared football to life in that we all need to work together in order to be successful and that if "put the Lord first and everything will work out"
Carolina Munoz Marin fighter "When the bell rings you need to fight" I thought her story was great in that she took time for herself to be healthy that when she joined the church she was nervous about what her parents would think, but because they loved her unconditionally and they could see it didn't change her love for them they welcomed it.
Bishnu Adhikari the humanitarian "Continually trying for improvement is the genuine effort for a lifetime" After leaving his village to receive a degree in Engineering, he returned to his home in Nepal with a new found faith and a determination to help improve the living conditions of the area. He travels to remote villages in the Himalayan Mountains to build roads, schools and water systems, all while living with his faith and respecting his culture and his family's expectations. I thought this was neat when he said he could do both. "I'm not close to perfection, but I am perfect in trying"
Gail Halvorsen the Candy Bomber "Service is the bottom line to happiness and fulfillment" During the 1940's Berlin Airlift, he sparked a movement when he started dropping candy tied to parachutes out of his airplane window to children below. This small act of kindness quickly became a life-saving boost to the morale of the people of West Berllin adn soon caught worldwide attention and support.
Dawn Armstrong, the missionary mom talked about her life before the church and the miracles she's seen because of joining the church "one choice can change everything" Her husband also has his own struggles (he has only one leg)
They also talked about the Proclamation to the Family
